The POCKET KNIFE is like the time your grandfather's buck knife watched Kurosawa for the first time.

Inspired by the early 20th century higonokami friction folder, the pocket knife has no locking mechanism and is held open only by friction from the handle and pressure from your thumb.

Paper and wood models helped us feel out the size of the knife before focusing in on the details.

We loved our first samples for the handle but the blade still needed work.

Designing the pocket knife was quite an adventure. If you would like to read more about it, the link below will take you to a post I co-wrote for the Grovemade Journal.

Designed in collaboration with my friends Kevin Do and Ken Tomita for Grovemade.
